What are the 4 different types of Investor Visas in Vietnam?

The Vietnam Investor Visa in Vietnam is categorized under four types, each visa allows investors to stay in the country from one to ten years. The following are the different visas:

  1. DT1: Foreigners can obtain this visa by making a capital investment of at least ₫ 100 billion ($4.1 million) or investing in incentivized investment areas designated by the Vietnamese government. The validity period of this visa is five years.
  2. DT2: Investors contributing a capital investment between ₫ 50 billion ($2.05 million) and ₫ 100 billion ($4.1 million) or investing in specific business fields determined by the Vietnamese government are eligible for this visa type. It remains valid for five years.
  3. DT3: This visa is granted to foreign investors who make a capital contribution ranging from ₫ 3 billion ($123,000) to ₫ 50 billion ($2.05 million). Its validity extends up to three years.
  4. DT4: Foreign investors who invest a capital contribution below ₫ 3 billion ($123,000) are eligible for this visa type, which remains valid for up to 12 months.

How to apply for an Investor Visa within Vietnam?

Here are four steps to apply for a Vietnam Investor Visa within Vietnam:

Step 1: Gather required documentation

The following documents are required to apply for the visa:

  • Copy of passport,
  • Form NA5: Visa application form for foreigners, 
  • Form NA16: A registration form for the seal and signature of the legal representative of the enterprise operating in Vietnam,
  • Temporary residence registration form,
  • Passport size photo, 
  • Proof of legal status,
  • Certified copy of Business Registration Certificate or Investment Registration certificate,
  • Certificate of seal specimen registration or a notice on the publication of information on seal specimen of the sponsor company on the national enterprise registration portal,
  • Lawyer license (if applicable).

Step 2: Submit documents to Vietnam Immigration Departments

Submit the completed application and supporting documents to one of the Vietnam Immigration Departments located in Hanoi, Da Nang, or Ho Chi Minh City.

Step 3: Pay the fees

Pay the visa application fee, which varies based on the type of visa, this depends on the duration of your stay and the number of entries, expect to pay between ₫ 610,625 ($25.04) and ₫ 3.79 million ($155).

Step 4: Receive visa

Typically, it takes five working days to process and approve the visa. Once approved, your visa will be stamped in your passport.

How to apply for a Vietnam Investor Visa from abroad?

Investors can also apply for a Vietnam Investor Visa from abroad through a Vietnamese embassy or consulate. Here are five steps to apply for a Vietnam Investor Visa outside Vietnam:

Step 1: Gather required documentation

The following documents are required to apply for the visa:

  • Copy of passport,
  • Form NA2: To request pre-approval from the Vietnam Immigration Department for foreigners entering Vietnam,
  • Form NA16: A registration form for the seal and signature of the legal representative of the enterprise operating in Vietnam,
  • Temporary residence registration form,
  • Passport size photo, 
  • Certified copy of Business Registration Certificate or Investment Registration Certificate,
  • Certificate of seal specimen registration or a notice on the publication of information on seal specimen of the sponsor company on the national enterprise registration portal. 

Step 2: Company representative submits documents to Immigration Department

A representative from the company must submit all the documents to one of the Vietnam Immigration Departments in either Hanoi, Da Nang, or Ho Chi Minh City.

Step 3: Approval from Immigration Department 

After five working days, the visa should be approved. The company’s representative can then email the visa approval letter to the foreign investor.

Step 4: Apply for the DT visa through a Vietnam embassy or on arrival 

There are two ways to apply for a DT visa. The investor can visit a Vietnamese embassy or consulate, where it generally takes five to seven working days to process and receive the visa. Alternatively, upon arrival in Vietnam, investors can obtain the visa stamp at the airport.

The following documents are required for this process:

  • Passport
  • Printout of the Vietnam visa approval letter
  • 2 passport sized photos (4x6cm) 
  • Vietnamese visa application form

Step 5: Receive visa

If applying through an embassy, investors must collect their passport with the visa stamp from the embassy. If applying on arrival in Vietnam, investors will receive the visa stamp at that time.

Generally, you can expect to pay around $135 to $155 for the visa itself, not including any service or processing fees which can vary if you use an agency or apply directly at a consulate.
